Caribbean or European vacation

Caribbean or European vacation ?
My husband and I want to take a vacation after I graduate from nursing school next summer. We both want to go to the Caribbean but also on a tour of Europe (England, France, Germany, Italy, etc.). Only 1 vacation though. We have two daughters, age 14 and 15. Based on your experiences, which vacation do you think they would enjoy more ? Caribbean or Europe ?

If you are taking your 14 and 15 year olds along, I would highly suggest the Caribbean. I have been to both places more than once, and I found the European adventure to be much more worthwhile when I was older, because I could appreciate the culture more.
2 :
Caribbean.

wow just be thankful to have a stable family http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081109084732AAcqTzu EDIT: might as well help you if nobody helps me. well ive been to both, im 14. europe is a BLAST, alot of walking. caribean is relaxed, but for experience i wwould say europe. caribbeans too typical... its fun but very lazy... europe wwill be soo o much fun if ur kids are mentally prepared to walk please help me
4 :
I choose Caribbean..You and your family will enjoy the beautiful beaches there.
5 :
14 and 15 years olds would have much more fun in the caribbean. The islands are beautiful, so much to see and do. Just the beauty and warmth of the ocean and beaches alone is worth it. Europe is old, and very expensive, and the people are rude, especially France , Paris is dirty, the washroom facility's stink. Atlantis is so beautiful and fun.

Can you be an Army nurse for returning soldiers? (not in combat zones)

Can you be an Army nurse for returning soldiers? (not in combat zones)?
For example, an army facility for recooperation when they are in the states..or possibly when they are on leave in Germany?

You can, but you go where the army needs you. You may have something called a dream sheet- but nothing is guaranteed.
2 :
Not really. If you're actually an army nurse (i.e. in the army), you'll be occasionally deployed to combat zones. When you're not deployed to combat zones, you'll be stationed near an army base somewhere, still working as a nurse. If you want to be a nurse for recently discharged soldiers, you can become a nurse for a VA clinic but this will probably only be with military personnel who made a career out of it, to be eligible for VA benefits.
3 :
yes you can. line units do not have nurses, we have no need for them. the nurses that do deploy do so with CSH's, which stay on base and never leave the wire. most nurses however work in stateside hospitols. when it comes to recruiting for AMEDD, the army is pretty quick to please, and im sure you'll be able to get choice of duty assignment in your contract.

Europe? Must sees and must do's? Any tips

Europe? Must sees and must do's? Any tips?
I am 18, going on 19 and have 2 years of university under my belt in Nursing/ Pre-med. I am taking some time off and going to Europe. My first stop is Stuttgart, Germany, where I will be an aupair for 12-24 months. During this time, but mostly afterwards, I plan on travelling, via hostels throughout Europe. Does anyone have any tips for me, or any must-sees and must-dos while I am over seas? Anything at all helps, as I am very open minded and super excited!!

The Holocaust Memorial in Germany is really moving, I suggest visiting that somewhere along your trip. Another good place is Amsterdam the entire place is like stepping back in time.

Do you really have school-psychologists at American schools

Do you really have school-psychologists at American schools?
Hej, In some US-American TV-shows they have school-psychologists and school-nurses at American schools (like the Simpsons or 'til death). Is that really true? Do you have something like that? Here in Germany we don't have that (maybe some pupils/teachers who had a first-aid-course [you need that for your driving liscence here]) and I think we don't really need that... A school-psychologist? What is he good for? Does he has a lot of work to do or does he sit alone in his office the whole time? How is that? And another question that doesn't really has to do with that: Are names like Gretchen or Heidi common in the USA? Thank you for all your very nice answers. They were really interesting for me. Thank you all!

We have councilors, but nothing like a psychologist. We tend to exaggerate a lot of things in our media.
2 :
Yeah, a school nurse and a school psychologist or social worker. The nurse you go to if you don't feel well and she decides if you should go home. She also gives you Tums or aspirin, bandages, q-tips, lets you lay down, etc. She is also the one who calls your parents to pick you up if you're sick, and the one to hold prescription meds for you if you have to take them during the school day. The school psychologist/social worker? Apparently my school has both, actually. The psychologist I have met once because the school thought I had some mental issues. I get the impression that she sits in her office and watches cartoons all day. My dream job! The social worker gets most of the psychologist's issues sent to her instead for some reason. I met multiple times because she can't keep her bossy nose out of other people's business. I'm serious. No, I'm not just saying that because she called CPS or anything like that. She's just a busybody and I know she got the job as a social worker because she likes the juicy gossip she hears that way. I mean, when you deal with her it's OBVIOUS she doesn't care about you personally and she's just hearing your life story and secrets because she wants the gossip and because she gets paid for it. Sorry for the rant. I just hope other schools have more competent staff. Heidi is common enough here. Gretchen is almost unheard-of, though. It depends on the name.
3 :
Nearly all schools have a psychologist but you probably won't get to hear about them unless it is decided you should see them. It is confidential.
4 :
Yes it is true, they go to a lot of special education meetings & have more than one school to deal with, and the names are here but not so common but I like them both.
5 :
Some schools have psychologists or therapists to help students. Most schools have nurses. My school only got therapists in times of crisis, like when a student died.
6 :
At my school, yes we do have school psychologists and nurses on campus to assist students whenever they are needed. Typically we have 2-4 nurses working in their office. When a student feels ill, it is the nurse's job to see if the student needs to go home. They make the final decisions on whether or not special consideration should happen (like calling for ambulence if something occurs at school). They also have have bunk beds for students to lie down or to sleep if it is needed. The school psychologist also has his own room. Typically, when a student is dealing with a stressful situation, he or she may contact the psychologist. The psychologist will try to consult the student, and may seek further guidance for the student. They are called under stressful situations such as deaths in the family. It may seem unimportant that we have a psychologist on school campus, but he or she really does work instead of sitting in the office. And, contary to the answer before mine, there are qualifications and credentials that you need in order to get this job. They are not just people who sit around and watch TV all day. In fact, many of them are doing research themselves! There really are students who go and talk to them. They're a great way to skip classes ;) Most of the time, American TV shows exaggerate the school scene, but we do have psychologists and nurses, mostly for the student's safety. Yes, there are Gretchens and Heidi's in the US. There's not many of them ( I think that there's 1 Gretchen out of 3000 students at my school and maybe 2 Heidi's). They are beautiful names however. If you cannot already see, different schools have different systems. Yes, schools have counselors as well. Counselors help you choose your classes and advice you on what to do at school and how you can get into college (at least at my school). You can talk to them whenever you need to, but if something really dramatic occurs, they contact the school psychologist. Some schools may not have a psychologists, in such a case I think they advice the parents to contact a psychologist on their own or a social worker to research the family's situation.
7 :
It is true that there are school psychologists and nurses, but I don't know how they are presented on TV in other countries. The nurses more or less determine if a child is really sick to call the parents, or to put a band-aid on a cut, but they cannot give any medication to the children. In case of a serious injury the ambulance is called and the parents are immediately called. The psychologist part does not work as well as it may sound. The majority of psychological problems the children bring to school have the origen at home, and the bureaucracy involved creates much difficulties to make it really effective. However, some help is better than no help at all. Another service that you don't mention is the school-lunch. For children of low income families, the school provides free lunch. The others pay a moderate fee. The advantage is that the menu is healthy food and well balance. The disadvantage is that some parents understate their income and not everyone is caught. So if you are dishonest, you may get free lunch and drive a Mercedes. All these are services paid with property taxes, and make the education budget so high that for some low middle class and retired people the taxes are unaffordable. I don't say all these, to be critic of my country which I love, but to show you not to believe everything you see on TV, because there are also many detractors of the USA that spread false negative things abroad. And, also, I know several Heidi, but not any Gretchen. Greetings, and thank you for showing interest in our way of life.

My boyfriend was injured in Iraq...and is on major pain meds..help me understand!!?
Ok...So my boyfriend was in Iraq. He volunteered for a mission and was helping his buddy load his truck. A connex fell on his arm smashing it and breaking all the bones in his hand and forearm...so he was flown out to Germany and had some surgeries there and then they sent him to TX to some specialists....His room mate wrote me on myspace to let me know what happened and my bf called me the next day to make sure i knew since he hadnt talked to his room mate..he was in a lot of pain...obviously. But anyway its been about a week since the whole thing happened and i have talked to him twice in that entire time...the second time mainly because his nurse in germany said he wouldnt stop talkin about me so she helped him get my number off his yahoo where he had it saved and gave him a phone to call me...he told me he was thinkin he was going to be addicted to pain meds after he got home and he just kept saying my arm is destroyed...and baby i miss you...he promised to call me the next day when he left germany and when he got to tx this was last thursday..and i havent heard from him since.... Our relationship is still pretty new.....but we did seem to have a bond..i know hes going to call me eventually but I am having such a hard time understanding and coping right now...I miss him so much..i hope hes doing alright and i dont understand how he could tell me he was going to call me 4 days ago and i havent heard from him since when he knows how worried i am.... For some reason..I his ex of 8 years seems to be tryin to get back in his life and i feel like a trauma like this might make him go back to something from his past...I dont know mayb he hasnt called cause hes so drugged up..i dont know i have never been on pain meds before...i think hes on morphine too..but can someone help me i am so stressed i miss him so much and things were going so good.....he always told me he would wait forever for me..and i certainly can wait for him..but i just want to understand..can meds really make you that out of it that you forget to do something you say to someone you care about...and also i have never broken a bone...i was wondering how painful what hes going thru might be..they said it would have been better had he lost his arm completely... Thanks people sorry its so long! no he has an ex that he was with 8 years...we met about 4 months ago and have been official for about a month.....

he's probably so sedated with medication that he's unable to call you. the side effects of those meds could be effecting his memory. He may be stationed in like an I.C.U. and not able to use a phone for contact. â—™
2 :
im confuzzled, so hes your ex of 8 years ago but your in a new relaship? Edit: ok i get it now, in that case what Boredinn said.
3 :
Considering he just had a near death experience don't you think you're being a bit selfish? He's in a hospital, he's drugged up and I'm sure there's probably a chance he could lose him arm. I think you should pray for him, but let it be. You can't begin to imagine what he has seen and is going through. The last thing he needs to be worried about is a needy girlfriend. (no offense) If he calls again, let him know you're there for him, but don't put any pressure on him. The last thing he needs right now is more stress.
4 :
HE LOVES YOU. Don't worry about his ex hun.. His injury won't make him stop loving you & leave you..

See if you can get in touch with the hospital he's in to speak to him. Contact someone in his unit to see if they know the number.
2 :
well i would suggest waiting for him to contact u ; unless u know w here he is at and u can call him. i deal with people all the time who are hooked on pain meds and its not a good thing ;so just wait it out
3 :
If he's on lots on drugs for pain, he probably forgot to call you. Morphine does that to you. He'll call you eventually.. don't worry.
4 :
you be there for him no matter what! i don't care how new the relationship is or how long it takes him to call you or what reason he has for not calling sooner. don't get mad, don't argue, don't make him feel bad in any way. just support him however you can and let him know you are there when he needs you. this is a very tough situation for him. you guys may not end up being together forever but you never know what will happen to him tomorrow and he needs you to care.
5 :
wow well try to understand I mean he must be really drugged right now because of all the pain.. or maybe he just hasnt been able to get a phone.. which could be a strong possibility, calm down, try to relax, but try to call him. look for him, and dont let his ex get back into his life! if you love him fight for him girl! and most importantly give him allll the love and support! he will really needed! believe me its not a nice feeling to broke a bones.... and it must be HORRIBLE to broke ur bones like he did! so yea be patient, caring and lovin.. if ya havent know anything from him in the past 4 days, theyn YOU look for him!
6 :
well, with the military it is hard to call each day and if he is in trauma he may not be able to call you. just be strong. things will work out. just email him and let him know that you are thinking about him and miss him dearly. if able, get in contact with his roommate and have him try and get a message to your man. best of luck.
7 :
don't worry he will call you he is just going through allot and being on meds he isn't himself just be patient and try to understand what he's going through and i really don't think he'll go back to his ex she's an ex for a reason especially since he said he would wait forever for you when he calls just tell him how you feel that you miss him and you will be there for him and everything will work out just fine

Filipinos

Filipinos:?
Please read this essay written by a Korean student studying here in the Philippines. ..nakakalungkot na we are partly to blame sa sitwasyon san Pinas...but i strongly believe there is still hope for the Philippines. .. The message goes: As you know, we have plenty of Koreans currently studying in the Philippines to take advantage of our cheaper tuition fees and learn English at the same time. This is an essay written by a Korean student i want to share with you. (Never mind the grammar; it's the CONTENT that counts ) MY SHORT ESSAY ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES Jaeyoun Kim Filipinos always complain about the corruption in the Philippines . Do you really think the corruption is the problem of the Philippines ? I do not think so. I strongly believe that the problem is the lack of love for the Philippines . Let me first talk about my country, Korea . It might help you understand my point. After the Korean War, South Korea was one of the poorest countries in the world. Koreans had to start from scratch because entire country was destroyed after the Korean War, and we had no natural resources. Koreans used to talk about the Philippines , for Filipinos were very rich in Asia . We envy Filipinos. Koreans really wanted to be well off like Filipinos. Many Koreans died of famine. My father & brother also died because of famine. Korean government was very corrupt and is still very corrupt beyond your imagination, but Korea was able to develop dramatically because Koreans really did their best for the common good with their heart burning with patriotism. Koreans did not work just for themselves but also for their neighborhood and country. Education inspired young men with the spirit of patriotism. 40 years ago, President Park took over the government to reform Korea . He tried to borrow money from other countries, but it was not possible to get a loan and attract a foreign investment because the economic situation of South Korea was so bad. Korea had only three factories. So, President Park sent many mine workers and nurses to Germany so that they could send money to Korea to build a factory. They had to go through horrible experience. In 1964, President Park visited Germany to borrow money. Hundred of Koreans in Germany came to the airport to welcome him and cried there as they saw the President Park . They asked to him, "President, when can we be well off?" That was the only question everyone asked to him. President Park cried with them and promised them that Korea would be well off if everyone works hard for Korea , and the President of Germany got the strong impression on them and lent money to Korea . So, President Park was able to build many factories in Korea . He always asked Koreans to love their country from their heart. Many Korean scientists and engineers in the USA came back to Korea to help developing country because they wanted their country to be well off. Though they received very small salary, they did their best for Korea . They always hoped that their children would live in well off country. My parents always brought me to the places where poor and physically handicapped people live. They wanted me to understand their life and help them. I also worked for Catholic Church when I was in the army. The only thing I learned from Catholic Church was that we have to love our neighborhood. And, I have loved my neighborhood. Have you cried for the Philippines? I have cried for my country several times. I also cried for the Philippines because of so many poor people. I have been to the New Bilibid prison. What made me sad in the prison were the prisoners who do not have any love for their country. They go to mass and work for Church. They pray everyday. However, they do not love the Philippines . I talked to two prisoners at the maximum-security compound, and both of them said that they would leave the Philippines right after they are released from the prison. They said that they would start a new life in other countries and never come back to the Philippines . Many Koreans have a great love for Korea so that we were able to share our wealth with our neighborhood. The owners of factory and company were distributed their profit to their employees fairly so that employees could buy what they needed and saved money for the future and their children. When I was in Korea , I had a very strong faith and wanted to be a priest.. However, when I came to the Philippines , I completely lost my faith. I was very confused when I saw many unbelievable situations in the Philippines . Street kids always make me sad, and I see them everyday. The Philippines is the only Catholic country in Asia , but there are too many poor people here. People go to church every Sunday to pray, but nothing has been changed. My parents came to the Philippines last week and saw this situation. They told me that Korea was much poorer than the present Philippines when they were young. They are so sorry that there are so many beggars and street kids. When we went to Pasangjan, I forced my parents to take a boat because it would fun. However, they were not happy after taking a boat. They said that they would not take the boat a gain because they were sympathized the boatmen, for the boatmen were very poor and had a small frame. Most of people just took a boat and enjoyed it. But, my parents did not enjoy it because of love for them. My mother who has been working for Catholic Church since I was very young told me that if we just go to mass without changing ourselves, we are not Catholic indeed. Faith should come with action. She added that I have to love Filipinos and do good things for them because all of us are same and have received a great love from God. I want Filipinos to love their neighborhood and country as much as they love God so that the Philippines will be well off. I am sure that love is the keyword, which Filipinos should remember. We cannot change the sinful structure at once. It should start from person. Love must start in everybody, in a s mall scale and have to grow. A lot of things happen if we open up to love. Let's put away our prejudices and look at our worries with our new eyes. I discover that every person is worthy to be loved. Trust in love, because it makes changes possible. Love changes you and me. It changes people, contexts and relationships. It changes the world. Please love your neighborhood and country. Jesus Christ said that whatever we do to others we do to Him. In the Philippines , there is God for people who are abused and abandoned. There is God who is crying for love. If you have a child, teach them how to love the Philippines . Teach them why they have to love their neighborhood and country. You already know that God also will be very happy if you love others. That's all I really want to ask you Filipinos.

I am touched by your missive, really i am. If only the people in my government were all upright ones, with all of them working for the good of the country and its people, we Filipinos would not be such unfeeling brats. No actually, unfeeling is not the correct term. Speaking for myself, I despise so much these corrupt people, from the President to the Senators, Congressmen, even the Chief Justice of the Philippines. I feel such contempt for them that it seems I do not care where the country is going, but I do care so much. I might be alone in my belief that we need an iron hand to bring some sort of order to our economy that is in total disarray. I wish we had a Lee Kuan Yew that could handle a much bigger population. Probably not in my lifetime.

Hi there, a very good essay, I was about to cancel it because I find it long but when I continue reading I enjoyed it. I think your right, it's the lack of love for the country, nobody wants to sacrifice. You know what, another problem with the Filipinos (that includes me) is their crab mentality, they don't want to see other people go ahead of them, for them if we're to suffer, so are you. I met a guy, he was a factory worker, he didn't study, but he wants to (so much) but he's parents doesn't want him to study because they think that even if he study he will end up with nothing because for them the country will remain the same. I was so disappointed when I heard it, he was so good with math, I thought I this guy was just given a chance to study he might be one day become a math instructor or engineer. That's why I want to become rich, I want to help those people especially like him who has the potential but where not given a chance.

Sadly but true, we Filipinos lack love for our country. We see it only as a place we were born, grew up in with our families and a place to come home to. I could never understand how our heroes (Rizal, Bonifacio et al) could have been so passionate about a country that they were so willing to give up their lives for. I cannot understand why Ninoy Aquino said that the Filipinos are worth dying for considering that the Filipinos do not love the country that Aquino so loved and was willing to die for. Is it because we have not experienced the kind of pain they felt when they saw how the country and its people have suffered, been ravaged by wars, been raped and mutilated by the colonizers? Is it because we were not taught how to love our country the way a good and patriotic citizen should? Or, is it because we have different cultures. We have been under colonization and have, in effect, adopted some of the colonizers' habits and ways of thinking. Like the Spanish "mañana" system. Or, the Americans' indifference...even the Japanese disregard for an individual's right. All those have been ingrained in our ancestors' minds and lives and have, unfortunately, been passed on from one generation to the next. Still, it isn't reason to be what we are because we know it isn't right. The legacy of the past has its good and bad points. It is up to us to choose what works best for us and for our country. Again you are right. To quote you "We cannot change the sinful structure at once. It should start from person."
4 :
Although I am american I enjoyed your testimony. That is beautiful. The bible teaches a lot about the power of unity but people in general during this modern age do not want to unite. Everyone is out for themselves. Its hard to reach out and help people because of the cheating and deceitful motives. I would rather reach out to children because they are not real experts at being deceptive and being users. Most children are teachable unlike adults who are too ignorant and set in their own ways. Reaching out to the next generations is more profitable.
5 :
That guy's opinion is on point, I couldn't agree more. Aside from patriotism, trust among fellow Filipinos is lacking in the nation.
6 :
That essay by a supposed Korean has been making the rounds in our email inboxes for some time already. You are asking for my insight: I agree most about what's said about the Philippines, and in fact many Filipinos already share the same sentiment long before that essay came about. Love of country, faith, etc.... nobody would argue against that, right? But what made it catch our attention is, I think, because its written by a foreigner. No truth could be more biting than when it is told by an outsider.
7 :
The Americans helped you out more than you know and they still are.
8 :
I used to be married to a Filipina. And she would always whine to me about how corrupt your country is. But suprsingly, when we visited the Philippines 3 years ago, she gave money to the custom officials in the airport just to speed up our luggage. My point is, why complain if you become a part of the corrupt system. Well, my wife cheated on me last year and we got divorced, but thats a different story. Just a thought.
9 :
thank you. I needed to be reminded of this.
10 :
I cannot comprehend why Filipino race is such a rare and unique specie when it comes to patriotism . Any Filipino will love and defend the following in order of most importance: 1. First & foremost the immediate family, then followed by; 2. The region where his/ her descendants have tribed and lastly; 3. The Philippines, the country of his/ her origin. In the heart of every Japanese, Korean, Malaysian and some nationals, the order of priority is exactly the opposite of what the Filipinos have for their preference. No wonder this country cannot move forward because if ever a citizen will bear sacrifices it would be for his/ her family first before the country. edit: "A Filipino's sense of self is derived from his or her family: "I am who I am because of my family; their success is my success, and my shame is their shame..." The Family (pamilya) is the most important social unit in the Philippines, a core value, and the ultimate safety net. A Filipino would find it almost impossible to refuse family requests or ignore family obligations."

I would like to foreign exchange but

I would like to foreign exchange but...?
I'm a junior in high school, but will be graduating early and going for nursing. The school im going to has foreign exchange opportunities, but not in the country i would like to go to. I want to study abroad in germany for one year. Is it possible to still go to that college but study abroad through some organization, and if so what organization?

Often, there are programs available that aren't THROUGH your university, but your university will accept credit from. Talk to the foreign exchange office there for particulars.
4 :
Are you looking to do a college program in Germany? I'm afraid I can't address that - perhaps someone else can. You can skip the rest of my answer. If I may make a suggestion - do a "gap year". This is a program for recently graduated students. It's fairly common for European students to take a year between high school and university. Which ever program you choose, make sure the organization is listed with the Council for Standards on International Educational Travel (csiet.org). They routinely audit programs for quality. If I may, I would like to cast a vote to going with Youth For Understanding (YFU). I am a 5-time host mom and volunteer with YFU. When I have asked exchange students why they chose YFU, I get the following answers: (1) YFU gave them more bang for their buck and/or (2) someone they knew and trusted recommended YFU. 95% of the fees collected by YFU go for direct program costs (airline tickets, support in hosting country, etc.). YFU has been around for 59 years and has learned how to make exchanges successful. YFU does have a gap year program to Germany. (http://yfuusa.org/countries/germany-14.php) The deadline for applying for this program is April 1. Good luck to you no matter what you choose!

Are these sentences correct

Are these sentences correct?
1. Would "there" be a discount since we're buying in such large quantities? 2. Would "it" be a discount since we're buying in such large quantities? ------> Are these No.1 and No.2 sentences correct? If it is, What's difference between No.1 and No.2? 3. He proposed me to work in Germany as a nurse. 4. He proposed taking a rest there to me. 5. I proposed him to reduce the loan 6. I proposed him that the loan should be reduced. --------->Are these sentneces No.3,4,5,6, correct?
Words & Wordplay - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Question one is grammatically correct. Question two would make sense if it read: Would it be discounted as we are buying in such large quantities? 3. He proposed that I should work in Germany as a nurse. 4. I don't quite know what you want to say on this one but I will make a guess, He proposed to take the rest there for me. (We would normally say 'He offered to take the rest there for me.) 5. I proposed to him that I would reduce the loan or I proposed to him to reduce the loan. 6. I proposed to his that the loan should be reduced. Hope this is some help to you. English can be confusing. We use proposal i.e. My proposal was that we should reduce the loan. and offer - I offered to reduced the loan for him.
2 :
1. Would "there" be a discount since we're buying in such large quantities? 2. Would "it" be a discount since we're buying in such large quantities? 1. is correct. 2. is not correct. It should say, 'Would "it" incur a discount since we're buying in such large quantities?' 'It' implies 'the sale'. 3. He proposed me to work in Germany as a nurse. incorrect He proposed that I work in Germany as a nurse. 4. He proposed taking a rest there to me. incorrect He proposed that I rest there. 5. I proposed him to reduce the loan. incorrect I proposed to him that the loan should be reduced. 6. I proposed him that the loan should be reduced. incorrect I proposed to him that the loan should be reduced. It might be better to use 'suggest' rather than 'propose'
3 :
Better choices: Would a discount apply since we're buying in such large quantities? He proposed that I work in Germany as a nurse. I proposed that he reduce the loan.
4 :
Sentence 1 is correct. You just don't say, "Would IT be a discount" in sentence 2. 3. He asked me to work in Germany as a nurse. 4. Huh? He suggested ....not sure what you're saying! 5. I asked him to reduce the loan. 6. I suggested to him that the loan should be reduced.

A cicillian nurse is one who is not joined to the military, so just a normal regular nurse.
2 :
a civilian nurse is a nurse that's not in the military. it's a friggin nurse.
3 :
A civilian nurse is a nurse who's a civilian, not military. Payment is based on experience, level of education, and place of employment. Contract, from my understanding, is mostly for travel nurses.
4 :
I think you are meaning civil service nursing?
5 :
an RN who isn't in the military.
6 :
All Nurses are the same. Same schooling, same degree. A civilian Nurse is not in the military, a military Nurse is. Either one can work where ever there is a need for a nurse. Say that three times.

the airforce reserves...?
i'm thinking i'm going to join the airforce reserves and become a nurse & go to college with the GI bill. some people say in the AF reserves you won't get deployed if you're a full time student... is that true? I don't mind getting deployed to germany or something for nursing but afghanistan on the other hand i worry about. and after basic and ait i here you go to tech school before college or something?? what's tech school about
Military - 2 Answers

1 :
The point of joining the military is to serve ur country if that means going to afgahanistan then that's where u go. The money for school is great but should not be ur only reason for enlisting. It's a big commitment. The chances of getting deployed in the reserves is low but there is always a chance and no u have no say in here you go. You go where the air force needs you that's what you signed up for. After boot you go to tech school to learn your job. School can be anything from a couple months to two years. You have to complete your training before coming back home to do drill and your local base. If this is something you want you should really talk to a recruiter
2 :
1. The military does not train you to be a nurse.l 2. The reserves do Not have the GI Bill. You enlist in the reserves, then you go to basic and tech school ( where you learn your job ) If you want to go to college, then you can go, if you can afford it. The reserves will offer about $7,500 per year in educational aid, you must pay the rest. 3. yes, you can be deployed i the reserves, even if your a college student.

How to make a complaint for Mobbing in Germany

How to make a complaint for Mobbing in Germany?
Hello everyone, I am a medical doctor working in Germany. I am on my way to my new working place, but i got a lot of bullies on the last one and as my boss has a long history of mobbing / few people have left already the department - 2 doctors and 3 nurses / - i want to make a complaint. She absolutely deserves it. I would really appreciate if anyone could give me any advice how exactly to do it. I have no doubts that i want to make the complaint, the thing is that i dont know how to do it. And more important - how to do it in such a way that to get a result at the end. Cos this woman has done it to many people and continues to bully some of my very dear colleagues, but as they have not found another job yet, they are quite scared about complaining. Every practical advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance

You're probably a foreigner who is obviously highly educated. Why don't you help your own people and culture? You may find that the next place you work will have similar type personalities. You may be the one who is actually the bully because of your insensitivity and your worldly false perception of intelligence.

could it be cos i am not native english speaker??! i didnt ask u why they have done this to me. i asked HOW CAN I MAKE THE COMPLAINT right. if you have nithing to say on a question, please, do not waste ur and my time to answer! thanks!! to the last answer - sorry, but i am white blue-eyed christian, not a muslim. and used to live in London before moving to Germany. the only cultural difference is that i have never in my life met so rude people as the germans. and no - the problem is not in me. i thought it at the beginning, but she is doing it with everyone. few people have already left. and everyone in the hospital knows it. she sleeps with the director-to-be in 1 yr which is the reason they let her do that. if one of my friends is still staying it is cos he has a family and children and his wife works in a school near hear too. which makes it more complicated. did i say i am in East Germany? so, thanks a lot to the ones who care, and please, please, the idiots - i am not asking u for a "psychological analysis" of a situation and people who u dont know. all i asked for was - HOW TO MAKE THE COMPLAINT RIGHT. thanks a lot

Harassment and bullies at the working place in Germany. Please, help

Harassment and bullies at the working place in Germany. Please, help!?
I am a medical doctor and started recently working in a hospital in Germany. As this is the first time i am in this country, i had some difficult moments with the language at the beginning. The problem is that instead of trying to be supporting, my boss and the nurses are making jokes of that. Which frustrates me really much and is the reason i could not improve my proficiency of the german language at all for the last 2 months. And when my boss humiliated me before about 10 nurses. She said smth i could not at first understand and then she just repeated the same thing 3 times with exactly the same words, looking at me as if i was an idiot to not understand, which made the nurses laughing and joking about that. I was so embarrassedd, i could not say a proper sentence and just left the meeting. Plus, cos i have only 1 yr working experience, the nurses treat me as if i am some kind of mentally retarded and ignore me almost all the time. Instead of being tought i am all the time pushed to do stuff i am not ready for. And after that - looked at as if i am a complete idiot and of course "oh, you know, in our universities in Germany we do this and those so good, obviously in your country you haven't been taught that well..." Please, could anyone give me advice what to do and how to fight this harassment and humiliation. I am so frustrated that my german even gets worse and worse. I can't do my job well, cos there is always someone to look at me in a disrespectful manner. I can't take it anymore and have started looking for another job. But it takes time to find new placements and to go on interviews and so on. And on the other hand, this is a well paid job in a town i quite like - why should i lose this job just cos they think they can abuse me. Any legal advice would be really highly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

2 :
This is a tough one. Your obvious hurt seems to further encourage your colleagues to make jokes at your expense. I cannot give you any legal advice but there should be recourse to bullying (mobbing) which the hospital's leadership is required to address if brought to their attention. My personal experience shows that mobbing is seldom a curable disease and will continue long after the original rationale is forgotten. You could try appealing to their better nature by explaining how their behaviour affects you. Then add that you have take the step to go to night school or the Goethe Institute to better your german and that you would be grateful for any day to day assistance they might give in correcting your german. Finally find it in yourself to laugh along if you really goof up. Some things actually CAN be funny.

Where do you nurse baby in public

Where do you nurse baby in public?
Last night we went to Walmart, and of course my 4 month old decided she was hungry right in the middle of the shopping trip. As it's in the 30's outside I didn't want to take her back out to the car, then come back in when we were done. I looked in the bathroom to see if there was someplace to nurse. Nope, just toilets. I asked an employee who said there was a family bathroom in the back. She said there was a chair too. I go back there and open the door. UGH!!!!!!!!! The bathroom is large and accommodating but stinks to high heaven of you know what. It looks filthy. To top it off, no chair. There is no way I'm going to sit on that toilet to nurse. Outside the restroom is a nice bench. However, it is a high traffic area and people kept walking by, especially male employees. I didn't know what to do. Finally I noticed in the baby section there were a couple of seats (like you would sit on to try on shoes). I sat there and nursed my daughter. I was covered with my nursing cover and a blanket. But lots of people still looked at me like I was naked. Then to top it all off, my husband comes over and tells me that I am sitting right underneath a video surveillance camera!!!! Why is it so hard to find a private place to nurse? When I visited Germany, there were places everywhere, and people didn't look at you like you were doing a bad thing!!!!!!!!

Places like Babies R Us and Belks have 'nursing rooms' which are great, but if I am somewhere like Walmart that doesn't I go in the fitting rooms. You would think a company as large as Walmart could have a space designated for nursing.
2 :
It might be a better idea if you try and time your shopping trips around your daughters feeding schedule. You always have the option of feeding her before you leave and again when you get back.
3 :
Who cares? It's not a big deal nursing in public. People in America are very odd about breast feeding. Just keep a blanket or nursing cover with you and walk around like your not doing anything strange. BECAUSE YOUR NOT! :) Congrats on breast feeding. Also do NOT structure your life around feeding time... that's rediculous. Go on as life as usual when your babies hungry, he/she is hungry. Your not a prisoner b/c you've decided to breast feed. Your a wonderfull mother.
4 :
Well, I remember my mother nursing in places like walmart. She just put the changing pad on the bathroom floor and sat on it and nursed there. You need to quit being so picky. I don't know how many times I've seen mother sitting on the bathroom floor and nursing or even standing in the restroom and nursing. If you can't handle being just like every other nursing mother in the world without any special privileges or accommodations, you may need to either stay close to the house or quit nursing!
5 :
Next time if you are uncomfortable, go to the dressing room. You have the legal right to do it anywhere you choose (at least in my state). Way to go Momma for choosing the best nutrition for your little one..let them stare, it's a beautiful thing!
6 :
Walmart sucks behind for nursing friendliness. The few times I've nursed in Walmart, it was on the bench by the lay-away desk. Nobody said a thing to me, I got a few looks but I smiled back at them and they turned their head right away. North Americans are prudes and only think of breasts as sexual, unless they happen to be a nursing or formerly nursing mother.
7 :
my cousin had to do almost the same thing and one lady got mad ans yelled at her in walmart. my cousin said " everyone else eats in public, well so can my son leave me alone. its not your business." lady left her alone. i dont know why some people have an issue with it. its one of the most natural things in the world.
8 :
best thing i can tell you is bathrooms is your only option when in a resteraunt i would go the handicapped so you have more room. also in malls and shopping stores i would go to the dressing or fitting rooms its private usually doesnt smell and you have a place to sit. if your driving down the road pull to a parking lot towards the end of the isles and lots away from other cars and do it in your car you may want to have a blanket handy in case someone walks by or something.

Hi, you should be able to trace his records through the USAF. You will need to know his birth date preferably, or at least where he was living when he joined up. Do you have any idea of his unit? That would help a lot in the research, even if his name isn't very common. You may be able to trace some details from here, which should lists various personnel who served in Germany. http://usafgermany.com/ This Wiki site may give you a few more clues as to what bases were where. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force_in_Germany Good luck.

maybe if you are finding learning it hard then maybe its not for you....what if you are needed in an emergency and cant remember something that you learnt. on the other hand maybe you would be a good nurse but cant get to grips with something like algebra. but with dental hygenist you will be cleaning peoples mouths (especiallly those with periodontis and smelly breathe) all day... id choose nurse lol. but only you can make that decision. what would you be happier doing and what do you enjoy more?? its about that
3 :
I am currently in dental hygiene school, but their is still a lot of biology that you learn. The bones of the skull, the muscles of the head, neck and mouth, arteries, veins, anatomy of the teeth. It is a little challenging, but you can get through it. Regardless of what you pick, you should like what you're doing.

K-Town is just fine. Had to look up M6. why the Army would put a LPN in an ADA unit is interesting. I was not stationed down there but went thru there several times driving to Pirmasens Army Depot. We fueled up a few times there too while out flying with the CO. That chow hall on Ramstein was awesome. Great part about Germany is just about everything. You can wash out your wallet or pocket book in the Rhine at Mainz at the end of Fasching (Lent), see the Castle burn in Heidelberg ever other weekend, walk on 600 year old streets. I suggest you get the other half there for at least a vacation. From Garmische you can hit Nueschwannstein, Oberamergau, Weiss Kirche, Zugspitz, Innsbruck. K-Town is spitting distance from France, 2.5 hours from Frankfurt, 4 hours from Munchen (Munich), there is even a Schloss Frankenstein in Darmstadt. It has nothing to do with the book, is not much, but is one of those "been there done that" places to go. October Fest starts in mid Sep end the first week of Oct, it's a must. Health care professional in U.K. or Germany

Health care professional in U.K. or Germany?
In your opinion, which country is better to work in as a health care professional (i.e. nurse, physician)? Does one country offer better pay and benefits, or have better job growth and stability? Thanks in advance!

First of all it depends on your nationality and native language. If you want to work in Germany and you are no EU citizen you will need a work visa and also you will need to speak German fluently this is one of the requirements to be able to apply for the visa. In Germany you will also have to get your foreign degree recognized before you can search a job be aware that may take some time. In the UK you will at least not have a language barrier if you are an English native speaker. You will however need a work visa unless you are an EU citizen again. Nurses are searched for in both countries but the salary is really hard to get you a decent living in both places. From stability and growth Germany will be slightly better off than the UK just look at the recent crisis which hit UK a lot harder than Germany but no big difference both countries are members of the EU .
2 :
Providing you fulfil all the necessary requirements and have no language barrier work in Germany. There is a better standard of life in Germany and that is coming from a Brit.

Is anyone familiar with the German documentary about nurses who care for "brain-dead" patients

Is anyone familiar with the German documentary about nurses who care for "brain-dead" patients?
In the 1980's there was a documentary produced in Germany titled something like, "Ich sorge für tote Patienten." Has anyone heard of this and know who produced it?

Would you be offended if traveling through Germany you saw a sign that said "Sons of Nazi War Veterans"

Would you be offended if traveling through Germany you saw a sign that said "Sons of Nazi War Veterans"?
Today I was driving from Houston to Austin for a nursing school interview, and I saw a billboard on the way that said "Learn about your Texas heritage" with a Confederate flag in the background. And behind the lettering was a picture of the fluttering Stars and Bars ("Confederate flag"). Would something like that offend you? It did for me. Sure, people may have had ancestors in the Confederate Army, but the bottom line is the Confederates stood for treason against the United States and her government. It seems disrespectful for all the U.S. servicemembers today who are fighting for our Union and her citizenry. Also, as The Daily Show recently pointed out here quite well: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-december-9-2010/the-south-s-secession-commemoration The Confederacy was all about keeping slavery. Even the CSA states explicitly mentioned they were seceding because of the slavery issue. What do you think?

Sounds interesting.

There's nothing wrong with learning about your heritage as long as it was told truthfully, which is unlikely here. Difference here is...Hitler murdered millions of jews. Nothing to be proud about.
3 :
No, its part of history.
4 :
yeah, it probably would offend me. but if your question is about confederates, then why did you mention nazis?
5 :
You have a simplistic view of the civil war. The war was about states rights and agrarian culture verses urbane. Slavery would have died out after a couple of decades.
6 :
Every culture remembers their war dead whether their cause was just or not. There are many, many war memorials in Germany. None of them have the word Nazi, but that was the ideology they died for. You can respect their sacrifice, or their talent in battle, without agreeing with their cause.
7 :
It doesn't offend me. The Confederacy IS part of Texas' heritage. The American Civil War was more than about slavery, just like most wars. I WISH I WAS IN DIXIE LAND http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzeLoa1gwCU Heritage, not hate.
8 :
You can't even do the Nazi salute without being arrested (literally) so I doubt a sign like that would be up for long... Not that it would bother me
9 :
You're from the North, aren't you? We were traveling with a friend from New York a few years ago, and went to Georgia's Stone Mountain to watch a laser show. The show animated three famed Confederate generals riding into battle triumphantly, then showed the horrors of the war and the destruction, had Lee break his sword, and showed the country reunited. The message was clearly anti-war, but the friend from New York was offended and incensed. But that was because she, like so many people in the north, don't know the complete history of the Civil War. In fact, while it's true that slavery was a central issue (which was clearly wrong), the problem that so many southerners had was that they felt that a distant government without a vested interest in local dealings was trying to tell them how to live. That's the same ideological issue that drove the American Revolution, by the way. Few people in the north know that Confederate General Robert E. Lee wrote that the biggest mistake that the south made was in not freeing the slaves first, and then declaring war. Few people in the north realize that the Emancipation proclamation freed southern slaves, but not northern ones. At the time, there were more slaves in New York city than there were in all of Georgia. (This was an exceptionally astute public relations move by Lincoln, in my opinion.) Few people in the north realize that most of the people who fought for the Confederacy did so without owning a slave. Dr. Bob is a direct descendant of one such person who volunteered to fight and later lost his life in a battle leading up to the defense of Atlanta against Sherman. There is no record that any member of my family ever owned any slave, yet members of my family saw fit to defend what to them was their homeland against an aggressive government. It's not offensive to learn about that valor. The billboard you saw wasn't calling for the re-establishment of slavery; it was an appeal to learn about the history and the heritage of those who saw fit to fight and die in defense of something that had meaning to them. I find reprehensible the issue of slavery and think it that Lee was right. I can't take credit for any choice my ancestors made. But I am quite appreciative of the contribution to freedom that both they and members of the Union army made as they served their country valiantly. So the answer to your question? No, while I think that the Nazi movement was even more reprehensible than the southern Confederacy, I would not be offended to know that someone advocated learning about the heritage of people who fought for the German army. (Interesting note: I stopped working on a series of notes on psychological research on prejudice in order to answer this question, seriously.)

Turkish youth in Germany

Turkish youth in Germany?
Lately, I have read many horrible (and racist) things about the Turkish community in Germany. That the Turks were in gangs, harassing people on subways and generally have lots of problems. I don't know if this is completely true or not.. all I know is that it is semi-true from the online sound of things. I just want to establish that in Australia, Turks are doing very well with the majority of students going to university, getting degrees and leading positive, fulfilling and healthy lives. My uncle is a lawyer, my aunt is a nurse, my mother an IT consultant, my father a restranteur, my grandfather an engineer and I plan on studying a BA in Journalism in the coming months. What is your view on Turkish-German youth and have you had any good/bad experiences with them? hey, I'm not saying Turks are perfect, all I'm saying is that I hear Turks feel alienated over in Germany/Netherlands/Belgium, but over here we have intergrated well into Australian society. Many of my cousins have Aussie wives. I'm just very curious as to what's happening over there, I've heard many stories

My only direct experience with young Turkish people in Germany has been the many friendly, helpful employees and owners of businesses. In particular, there are many Döner-Kebap restaurants and stands run by young Turkish men who are friendly, non-threatening, and pleasant. As an American who speaks little to no German, I find these Turkish shopkeepers to be far more friendly and accommodating than their German counterparts. Usually there are a couple of younger Turkish boys hanging out or working at the Döner restaurants, who also strike me as friendly and nonthreatening. I feel that's generally the case when I see all varieties of Southeastern European immigrants in Germany - driving taxis, riding the subway, and wherever I encounter them around town. I think it's very similar to the situation with Latino immigrants in the United States: Some people feel uncomfortable when they encounter foreigners in their hometown, and any time they see a large group of immigrants their minds leap to ideas of gangs, crime, violence, etc. even when it couldn't be further from the truth. I see Turkish immigrants to Germany, and Mexican immigrants to the US, as people who have taken a great leap of faith to travel to a new country in search of employment and opportunity to create a better life for themselves and their families.

There is a VERY large Turkish population in Germany. It can be understandable that there are some who may behave as you say. Also, Turkish men can be very misunderstood. They all think of themselves as very attractive, and if a woman gives them any kind of attention they think this means you want their attention -- this could be perceived as harassment to others. There is a big cultural difference, and even though there are many Turks who are acclimated to their adoptive country, there will always be a slight divide and misunderstanding. Not all Turks are bad. In fact, my boyfriend is Turkish, and I find they generally treat people (women in particular) very well.

Actually what you have heard is true to a huge % of the youth.(at least in bigger cities) That isnt racist. Come to germany and go into a club..after you go out, you should get a cut near the throat and almost die(like my friend) then you think differently The funny thing: for absolute nothing..you dont need to have done anything. Actually i only know about the bigger cities..dont know about small towns But in bigger cities they normaly build ´´gangs´´ with their family and other sometimes they come with 20 men then... If you look strange at them normally then comes an invitation for a nice beating(only from the turks who feel strong alone too..not many) But normally they dont harass people in subways In general they have alots of trouble. Is it not wanting to work..not wanting to go to school or criminal activities or the things above. exceptions proof the rule Im always annoyed when a foreigner tries to say something about it and we are racist against them or so without knowing anything
4 :
i live in a small town in germany and the turks here are just like everybody else oO there are really nice people and then there are some idiots.. but it's the same with the germans.. ^^ soooo basically there are idiots in every culture, it's just that the turks stand out in germany because they often don't speak german very well. these "big-city-problems" as described in an answer above basically don't exist here in the small town =)

Well, the turkish "youth" in their middle to late 20s say it was much easier for them to integrate into German society, since there were not that many Turkish people in Germany, and they needed to interact with their German classmates and neighbors, so of course they learned the language better, did better in school, went further in school, got apprenticeships more easily (it's unfair to only put that down to language skills, though, because economy was different 10 years back, too). There were not as many Muslim prayer rooms or Moshes (Spelling??? :( Sorry.), no Turkish sport clubs, no "only women" opening hours at pools... they needed to live in a country where they needed to integrate into the existing society because there simply were not enough of them to build up the structures they were used to having. Now there are many more Muslims, not necessarily just Turkish people, in Germany, and they live in "ghettos", meaning they live in parts of the town, mostly, where there is assisted housing from the state. THis, though unwanted by the state, supports them in clinging together as a group (they are in a foreign country that dos not understand their customs and traditions, nor respect them sometimes, and many of them do not speak the language (well). Plus, the structures here often support the more fundamentalist in their believe (because the morals from the 50's and 60's are what the old men who often sit at the head of the community know and perceive as "normal", even though in their home country, those morals are outdated now), and that eases the way for fathers to dominate their families in a "traditional" way. Often the teenage sons are lambs at home, honoring their elders, being nice as pie to everyone, and than when they are out in town with their fiends, they "flip", because they need to have some sort of feeling of control over something. Harassing people, especially people who obviously don't have anything to do with their community, in such an anonymous surrounding as a subway (I guess they are not thinking of the cameras) is an easy outlet for them. There was one incident this year where three Turkish kids severely beat up an old German man in the subway because he reminded them that smoking was forbidden. A typical "I'm the old, law-abiding citizen, and you are just three youths not knowing how to accept boundaries or behave correctly". Had he been a member of the Turkish community, chances are they would have said sorry and extinguished their smokes. He wasn't, though. I'm not saying the old guy made himself a victim, but with the Turkish kids, there are mostly two sides of the medal. Which also makes it so difficult for the two cultures. Often social workers are simply told: "You don't understand. This is our culture, these are our morals, you can't come in and destroy our morals just because we live in this country." To which one becomes sometimes tempted to reply: "You can't come in and destroy our country just because you want to live with your morals!" (if you want to express it that drastically and directly). And I'm not saying Turks are villains. I have Turkish friends who went to school with me, and they are nice, generous, warm and friendly people, open and welcoming, who will explain their customs when I ask, and, though they are somewhat fundamentalist, will listen to your side of the story, too, and discuss. Both of them (she and her brother) are studying and doing well, don't live in assisted housing, have jobs and own a house/ think of building one. The daughter is married (to a Turkish guy) and has two kids (while studying), and while she is independent and modern, she loves the fact that the structures and traditions are there to support her (kids are with Grandma in "the ghetto" when Mom goes to school). At home, she speaks Turkish with her kids. One could go on talking about the real hate crimes and "honor murders" going on in Germany, but: Yes, they happen, no question about that. Do they happen often: No. I do not believe it is a common thing, I think it is a horrible way of thinking of some horrible people. There are horrible people in all parts of the world, of every religion, in every country, in all parts of society.

i am english and have lived in germany for 16yrs i live in a large city, and we have a lot of turkish people here you are right, there are a lot of gangs of youths roaming the streets, causing trouble etc etc and there are gangs of turkish youths doing this, but not just turkish, we have so many different nationalities here

Hey Kaile, people like you are not the problem --- the problem are guys not going to school, robbing, dealing etc. German government spend a lot of money to integrate foreigners to german society. But turks have in a lot of german cities their own townships and that are no go areas for the others. (I must say, that is not true for Hamburg, but if you will have problems with a young guy --- it wil be not a russian, not an african, not an asian --- it will be a turk. The real problem --- german jurisdiction is worse. You see there was a young guy --- he made 63 robberies up to the age of 14. There was a big blablabla and they send him to Turkey. At that time crime of young foreigners decreased by 18%. But some times later they let him return and one year later they send him one and a half year to prison and that is a lot for a youngster in Germany. If you are a friendly normal citizen and you have problems with another one --- I bet the other one is a Turk --- that is the problem. It is not the problem --- that there are a lot of honest Turk people ---- but who likes always be compared with criminals ---- so very much honest turks flee off the country ---- that is the other problem. In the last 20 years I had 2 problems it were problems with turks. But I also have found some turk friends.

I lived in the infamous Kreuzberg district of Berlin, Germany's capital, and must say I never felt endangerd by the Turkish Youth Gangs (well, that's exaggerated in itself: They're not much more than we were when we were young), and I'd still feel safe there. One of my best friends (Turkish, by birth, German, by nationality) keeps joking about them in his Turkish language, which I don't perfectly understand. As I lived with Turkish Youth in Berlin, I'd stick with Douglas Adams' description in the "Hitchhiker's Guide": "Mostly Harmless." That doesn't mean that they're always harmless. I'm usually harmless, too, but can arrange for a beating when racist people (what we call "neo-Nazis") come along. The Turks I know feel well integrated into our society, and those who don't should think it over. And "Islam", as I learned, is not at all a uniform religion; it has as many facets and variations as Christianity. I talked a lot with Turkish people about their religion, and it made me read the Q'ran, and I found that it is a book among others, like the Bible, or the Bhagavad-Gita. There's some wisdom in it, but in "wisdom", there's "wise", so you have to treat it wisely.
9 :
as everywhere there's some sort of alienation. minorities have the tendency to become conservative when it comes to their values. so there's both, integrated turks (insert any other minority) and the frustrated ones who seek violence (gangs, fundamentalists). though of course that goes for the frustrated germans as well (gangs, hooligans, nazis...).

There are many good answers here already. One fact still missing - the change of society and the increase of poverty. This causes people who would normally be in jobs to sit on the streets and look for excitement in their dull surrounding. This stands for some Turkish juveniles as good as for some Germans or other nations' kids. The German ones shout, how bad the Turkish, Italian, Morocco (name the countries) are. The louder they shout and write in outlets like this, the more they are heard. Still, they are not many - just noisy. And they are taken much too serious. Nevertheless, after 9/11 mistrust developed towards people with muslim religion, sad to say. This resulted into the fact, that they, of course, moved together more closely and kept to themselves. Now, if a group keeps to themselves - more mistrust develops. Plus, the old conservative rules come out stronger - i.e. Turkish girls must marry Turkish boys, etc. This again finds even less understanding in German "simple framed" heads.... All together, in the normal German life you don't really find problems. Even the little wannabe Nazi buys his "Döner" at the Turkish shop not thinking about, who is serving him. :-)
