This is A Army Spouse Question, Please only answer if you know for sure or might have a idea.?
Okay so my husband and I are stationed in Germany and he will be deploying June 09' down range to Iraq. I got accepted into nursing school which starts in May 09' and is a year long so its awesome that it kinda ends when his deployment ends but we are having problems. We know there is a program for spouses who go stateside for school but our finance office ect wont tell us what it is and they told us the only way for me to go home and for me to get BAH is to ERROD me and I want to be able to come back after school and if I do that I cannot come back to Germany especially if he gets stop loss which they are expecting. Anyone who knows please help! It would truely be appreciated. Thanks!

hey, my husband is currently stationed in germany, his unit told him that if they wanted to have the spouse go back to the states they could ERD them back there... but then once he gets back he would have to re apply for command sponorship.... so its going to be a pain in the butt to do it. Your best bet would be to contact jag and ask them what your options are, or your husbands unit if they have any idea on what you can do... hope that help

If the two of you are in Germany, then you are likely on a three your tour. Sometimes (not always) when a married Soldier ERODs his spouse, his tour gets shortened to two years, like single Soldiers. If that is too big a risk for you to take, then you can also keep your government housing, forget the BAH and live stateside out of pocket.

Once you ERD you can NOT return to Germany on the Army's dime. They will NOT pay for any of it should you decided to go back after the deployment is over. They can request it but the chanc eof it being approved is little to none and if they do approve it he has to stay there another 24 months after you return. If you ERD you give up OHA and it is switched back to BAH based on the location where they send you. Your husband would have to do the remainder of any tour he has there without you, he gets stop lossed then he has to still stay there even though you ERD'd. If you go back it will be on your own dime in both directions because when he goes to PCS his orders are NOT going to include you from Germany because you has already ERD'd to stateside. They will cover your HHG being moved from the location that you stated in the ERD to the new assignment and nothing more. Here is some offical info on ERD for Germany. http://www.imcom-europe.army.mil/sfac/admin/EROD%20memo%203rd%20version.pdf

cannot be done.. if you use Early Return of dependents to get the move paid for, you lose command sponsorship and SOFA status and cannot return to Germany. using ERD, you can get BAH based on your location. if you choose to go home on your own dime: You lose your Government quarters (or OHA) at 30 days, you lose COLA after 30 days and would be required to pay for the storage of your HHG. you also will NOT be granted priority access to Tricare facilities Stateside.

There is a program called Military Spouse Career Advancement but that was only offered in a few states at a few bases and is limited to $3000 for 2 years only in certain programs. Nursing is not one of them, nor is it offered at any overseas base. There is a program through Army Services & Navy Marine Relief Society in which you might qualify for a semester scholarship and they are only offered outside the 50 states. It is around $400 a semester and that is all, you must reapply for it each time. The only way that you will qualify for BAH if you do go back to the US is if you do an ERD - Early Return of Dependents. The military will pay for the move to the location you want and you will get BAH for that area. You will lose the place you have in Germany, you will lose Command Sponsorship so you will not be able to return and live in housing in Germany. he will lose COLA for you, have to live in barracks when he returns, etc...
